You’ve all heard of Saint George and the Dragon. Well somewhere along the line it aal got muddled up because it was really king George the Foremost.
Apparently the king had become shipwrecked on a desert island when along came Jason and the Argonauts and rescued him. So he knocked aboot with Jason for a time getting into all kinds of mischief. It waas Jason who showed him how to slay Dragons.
Well anyway getting homesick he decided to come hyem. His ship landed doon the coast a bit Hartlepool it was when he hord aboot the Dragon.
The Dragon was holding the town to ransom saying it wanted young lasses to feed upon or it would burn the toon doon. The folk had tried dressing up a monkey but the Dragon wasn’t glakey. So the people tied a young lass to a stake and were standing around bubblin when King George walked in amongst them.
Straight away he took the hump with the Dragon and slew the beast saying ‘That’ll teach ye te haad yer gob’
The good folk of Hartlepool started calling him a Saint.
Now that’s a hokey if ivvor I’ve heard one.
