Ivvory waan knaas aboot the Olympic
Games but if you delve into its history youll find it
all started in Geordieland.
It all began in the time of George the Fanciful. Son of George
Longshanks he wanted all the young men to be fit and strong.
So he decided to hold a tournament which he declared a Geordie
holiday, and he called it race week. As the name implies it
was all to do with racing, there was sack racing, three-legged
racing, long and short distance racing, hurdle racing, teams
running aboot passing poss-sticks to each other racing. In
fact all the racing you could wish for.
Now where theres racing theres gambling, where
theres gambling theres crowds, Which in turn attracted
the Gypsies. They came with their crystal balls and side shows,
which all went to put the young men off the games. So George
the Fanciful banned the Gypsies from gannin.
This infuriated old Rosy Lee so she put a curse on the games,
every year it would pour from the heavens. Well you canna
race aboot in aal them claggy clarts, so George let the Gypsies
come back but by this time old Rosy was deed. So the curse
couldnt be lifted, and to this very day it still pours
down all race week. Thats no hokey.
