Black Gate

The "Black Gate" was added to Newcastle Castle between 1247 and 1250, forming an additional barbican. Blackgate was leased to the Society of Antiquaries in the 1880s, who extensively restored it between 1883 and 1885. The Society have held regular meetings here ever since.
