You might well ask how the term ‘Toon Ale’ came about there are two schools of thought on that but aah’ll take you to the start.
When Prince George and his followers first discovered the place we now know as Geordieland in thanks for their deliverance out of the wilderness they made a special brew. One fit for the Gods, The nectar of heaven.
Now it was taboo for any women to sup of this ale, so they made a second one especially for the wimmen which they gave the name Toon Spirit thus keeping everything hunky-dory. There was a saying at the time ‘ Lang may there be a glass of Toon and a chunk of stottie in yer hoose. If not gan aan bool yer hoop’
This is where the aad gadgies disagree. Some say it is spelt as part of a religious ceremony. Others say that it got its name from the Glasgow King awakening from his binge.
We may never know wee’s reet but we do know that the term ‘Toon Ale’ was used with reverence for hundreds of years. Then it became ower popular. Aah blame the tourists me sel.
