Toon Ale Newcastle Beer first brewed in 1922:
Rediscovering Toon Ale.
Known as “The
Captain” to his family and friends, descended from
the most infamous of Border Reivers, he left his family’s
farm in Northumberland and joined the circus traveling up and
down the country.
A proud and passionate man, but a family man at heart, he himself
was finally tamed by the
woman who would give him thirteen children in their home
on Percy
street, Newcastle Upon Tyne.
While he continued as a performer in the local Music Halls in
and around Newcastle his brewing efforts in the back room of
the house produced a tonic of such efficacy that it was soon
in much demand by his neighbours and his friends.
The Captains ‘Toon Ale’ was born just as the world
leapt into the ‘Roaring Twenties’.
Reinvented by his great-great-grandson at “the finest micro-brewery
on Tyneside” the Captain’s ‘Toon Ale’ is
still a Geordie tonic for a proud and passionate people.
